Come volunteer your time and help to ensure the Marshallese people have access to sustainable energy for generations to come!
We are now offering volunteer and internship positions as part of our current expansion. All interns and volunteers will be provided with basic shared lodging in the center of Majuro, with cooking, telephone, internet, and laundry facilities all available. Start and end dates are flexible, so we are able to fit in with your current school/ work schedule.
Our current projects include:
-Providing training for and aiding in the installation of solar PV powered refrigeration units, partially funded by the USDA through a competitive grant, to improve food security for the outer island people, with a focus on educating women
- Troubleshooting and monitoring an 8.4kW solar PV powered demonstration house, and aiding in the installation of a solar powered water purification unit as part of the house. Also, implementing an educational project of community interest inside of the demo house (details will be reveled upon acceptance).
-Educating users and carrying out research on energy efficiency measures, appropriate technologies, and behavior change in order to ensure our projects fit in with the needs of the people
-Designing and implementing a marketing plan in conjunction with a New Zealand company in order to expand our range and size of renewable energy projects in the North Pacific, including projects related to food and water security, radio and communications, and security and street lighting.
-We are also open to your ideas for projects, so feel free to develop a proposal and may be able to work with you to implement it.
We are looking for people with the following qualifications and assets, in order to ensure that you will be able to contribute to and gain experience through our current projects:
-Experience or degree in one or more of these fields: renewable energy (including solar PV, hot water, and wind), sustainable architecture, resource management, ecological agriculture, rural water supply, community development, electrical engineering, video and website design, business or not-for-profit management, field market research, construction skills, and/or pacific island languages.
-Creative and able to work with limited guidance and supervision, self-motivated and able to achieve results.
-Excellent organizational skills with the ability to integrate information.
-Proficient with computers, including experience in writing reports and proposals.
-Able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment under demanding conditions.
-Leadership and decision making skills, with the capacity to communicate effectively and motivate others.
-Strong constitution, good health and ability to work in rustic conditions (heat, basic diet, simple accommodations, etc.)
-Open to cross-cultural exchange of information and ideas and committed to international development.
-Experience working with other cultures, especially in tropical developing countries.
